June first was the seven year anniversary of my wife Robin’s suicide, on that day I wrote The Suicide Note as a response to the actual suicide note which she had written to me as an explanation for her actions. In the time it took me to write this blog, eight people in the United States will have ended their own life by committing suicide. This is based on the national average of a suicide taking place every 15 minutes. Suicide is the third leading cause of death for youth between the ages of 15 – 24 years old, it is the fourth leading cause of death for children between the ages of 10 – 14 years old, and the sixth leading cause of death for youth between the ages of 5 – 9 years old. The leading cause of death for America’s youth are accidents and homicides.* (more…)
